Manage Your Anger

Anger is a normal, healthy emotion that we all experience at times. However, when anger becomes a way of life or we react angrily to every situation it can make us impossible to live with.

If you’re acting on your anger in ways that are destructive to others or yourself, it’s a problem. Our program can show you how manage your anger more effectively. CBT can give you the skills you need to step back, acknowledge your anger and choose how to act, rather than flying off the handle immediately. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore a range of relaxation techniques to find one that suits your personality and lifestyle.

I knew it was time to get help with my temper when I was put on a final warning at work because of it, and my wife and I were hardly speaking. I’ve always had a bit of a temper, but things have just gone down hill recently with a lot of redundancies at work and money problems at home. I just seemed to be angry all the time. Thankfully the 28 day program has really worked – I still feel angry sometimes, but now I can stop myself and decide how to react. That’s the most important thing I’ve learned, I can feel angry but I don’t have to lash out, I can choose how to react.

Anger is not always a negative emotion. It can be a positive force driving us to take action or motivate us to make important changes. However, in excess it can have serious negative consequences. It’s time to take action on your anger if it is:

  • damaging your personal relationships
  • causing problems at work
  • leading to conflicts such as arguments, road rage or physical fights
  • has lead to problems with the police.

A recent survey for the Mental Health Foundation found that 28% of adults said they worry about how angry they sometimes feel, and 32% have a friend or relative who has problems dealing with anger.

How our 28 day program works

Our programs are based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). You’ll be assigned a personal therapist who will work with you throughout the program.

  • Initial consultation: Your program begins with a 45 minute virtual consultation with your therapist. This can be by email, telephone or instant chat, whichever suits you best.
  • An individual program planned especially for you. Your therapist will plan a unique program based on your individual needs. He or she will send you an email every morning during the 28 days program, including tasks or exercises to complete that day. These may ask you to challenge negative beliefs or try out new thoughts or behaviour.
  • Support from your therapist whenever you need it. You can contact your therapist by email at any time.
  • Virtual therapy sessions every 7 days. You’ll have a 45-minute session with your therapist every 7 days during your program. This is an opportunity to assess progress, talk about any challenges you have encountered, and decide on your next step.

Our program allows your to explore underlying causes of your anger and helps you to develop a range of strategies that you can use to manage your anger effectively on a day-to-day basis.
