About

Why Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

The aim of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is to help you to change the way that you think, feel and behave.

Unlike many counselling approaches, this type of therapy does not concentrate on dealing with events from your past, but instead focuses on the difficulties that you are experiencing in the present. CBT teaches you new skills and helps you understand how to react more positively to situations, people or events that would usually cause problems for you.

Many clinical trials have highlighted the effectiveness of CBT. The NHS say that CBT is particularly helpful in tackling problems such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders and drug misuse, and note that it is one of the most effective treatments for anxiety and depression.

It’s important to note that CBT cannot remove your problems, but it can help you to manage them in a more positive way.
